[0.16.47]Tree richness setting does nothing

Post by Bilka » Mon Jun 04, 2018 7:46 pm

Changing the richness of trees in the generation screen does not affected the tree generation.

Seed 1234, default settings except for very good tree richness:

and very poor richness:

As you can see, the trees are the exact same except for different leaf colors.

Isn't it that Richness defines how much resources they give and Frequency is what you are looking for?

Trees always give 4 wood as per the prototypes, so I assumed that richness should affect the tree density. Since it currently does nothing, who knows what it meant to do...

What does richness do for biters nowadays?
There are 10 types of people: those who get this joke and those who don't.

Tree richness effects how lush the trees are (how green they are). You can even see it in your 2 screenshots.

What? How it changes gameplay?

Less-rich trees absorb less pollution.

Less-rich trees absorb less pollution.
All trees that have leaves absorb the same amount of pollution.

At the start yes. As the tree is more damaged (less green) it absorbs less pollution.

To be exact, vanilla trees have 4 levels of leaf density and 16 levels of pollution damage. Richness modifies leaf density, which determines how much pollution a tree absorbs. As a tree is being damaged by pollution, its leaf density decreases.
