Help prevent the frequently-nerve-wracking death-by-train by introducing a new technology called “Personal Wireless Rail Signal” that allows a (late-game) player to craft a special signal that can be inserted into armor and that causes normal rail signals to interpret a player standing on tracks (or near tracks) as they would a train on that same section of tracks. This way, a player can approach and run across tracks freely without worry.
I think this should be a late-game item and expensive to build to ensure that the player first gets to experience the joy of train death before being relieved of it.
(as a side question, can one can approximate this now over a section of tracks by wiring a signal to a one of the automatic gates?)
Thanks in advance for the great responses

Re: Personal Wireless Rail Signal
Circuit behavior for rail signals and gates does let you make good crossing gates.
one way to do it
