Hello,
With 0.16.41 I occasionally experience FPS drops, from 60 -> 20 aprox. It can be fixed (getting the FPS back to ~60 again) by ALT+TAB-ing out and in again.
It appears as if Factorio wrongfully enters into a background rendering mode where the frame rate is reduced.
I think the decision logic when this should happen is flawed somehow. I haven't found an exact way to reproduce the issue, because I don't know the current implementation.
If a developer could explain (in the pseudo-code perhaps) how Factorio is detected/deciding when to reduce the FPS and restore it, I might be able to help out with the steps to consistently reproduce the fault.
With kind regards,
Drakomir

Re: [0.16.41] FPS drops
That's bad! I have also a drop of FPS from 60/60 to 20/60.
Not only in overview mode but also on food.
I'm using a GTX1080 on Intel I7 6700 CPU@3.40Ghz that should not be the problem.
until now it was always 60/60 (the previous version before this one, also dropped sometimes)

Just FYI: there is no "background rendering mode" in Factorio.
Do you have a > 60 hz monitor?
Do you have a > 60 hz monitor?
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.
Re: [0.16.41] FPS drops
No, my monitors are capped to 60 Hz.
I also noticed that when the FPS drops, the GPU usages of Factorio spikes towards 100% (which seems odd). Nominal GPU usage is around 15-20% for me.
I'll see if I can collect some more data / logs files to include with this thread.
