Train Track DOH!!

Post by Marconos »

That feeling you get when you get your 60 furnace up and running, Dumping all of their produce into nice chest to be picked up at a yet to be built train depot. Only to realize train tracks only place at every other inserter position and your ENTIRE setup is off by 1 square .... :cry:

Are they fast enough to fill a train car really quick? I generally use fast or smart inserters at my train bays. haven't tried long there.

I would rather take the speed penalty(they're not that much slower than fast, just have longer to turn) than rebuild an entire mining operation. But then that's up to you.

I would just do a quick blueprint. :D In fact, I have done it that way.

https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... Principles
-> raster of tracks

You can built only on even tile numbers! Checked that out once, when I had the same problem.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

This is the highest volume loading / unloading I could get.
\The far left set of inserters on both sides of the tracks are just outside of range for the last wagon.
Two fast inserters work as one long inserter while a long inserter helps out.
AHEM
If you wanted, you could probably dump both sets of fast inserters on both sides for a second set of long inserters and have them output onto two different conveyor belts, on each side.

That's an awesome trick :) You may have timed how long it takes?

That's only fastest if you have zero stack size bonus.

The absolute fastest is two rows of long-handed inserters with +4 bonus. But a single row of fast inserters is almost as good and much easier.

Interesting solutions, going to take a look at the wiki you linked.

Another strange thing that I noticed is the number of arms that can load a single car changes if the car has other cars connected to the front or back of it.

Also trying to figure out exact spacing so you can layout an area before you have the rail line built and have the train actually match up with it.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Interesting statement :) Going to mess with that :)

so if using stack size bonus it is fastest to use long inserters.. ok but how they grab from 1 space away? would this work?
{train>
long ins (v)
long ins (v)
logistics chest
logistics chest

i thought long ins work like this :
>-x->
and thus the pickup is not landing on the train?
>|train|x->
ima have to rethink long handers if they work like that

Nice Necro.
Anyways, the reason it works with trains (and most buildings) is because they're more than 1 tile wide. Same reason you can use long inserters when you place them right next to a furnace or assembly machine.
