The new PvP Production challenge is quite fun but the only real interaction between the teams is battle and destroying things.
I don't think the fighting fits Factorio. So instead i propose another interaction by claiming territory.
The rules should be something like this
1. You can only build in your/your teams territory.
2. You can claim (unclaimed) territory with some sort of cost (pay resources or build something)
3. You start of with the home area already claimed. The teams home areas should be close to each for a race to claim territory possible in the way for the other teams.
The reasoning is that you could claim land as Iron patches or claim land that the opposing teams need. Then you need to adapt and change plans when the opposing teams claim land you planed to use. If you could build wherever you want and is not able to destroy enemy building it would be to easy to build stuff that blocks stuff in the enemy base. Win conditions could be something like who launches the first rocket or who have the most territory after x amount of time.
