More ore types, Chemistry, weapons

Post by Robin Hood »

I don't know if anything like this has already been suggested but here goes.
My idea is to increase manufacturing complexity slightly by adding more ore types and more chemical types.

Lead ore > Used for making batteries, nuclear buildings and ammo
Tin ore > Used for making inserters and additional recipes
Gold ore > Used in green, red and purple CPU manufacturing and additional recipes

And for chemistry
Fluoride > to process Uranium into Uranium Hexafluoride gas then into U238 and U235
Glycerine & Nitrogen > to make nitroglycerin and on into explosives
Nitrogen > to make coolant fluid for reactor operation and add an overheating mechanic to nuclear reactors that eventually causes them to blow up when loss of coolant

Weapons
Adding new lines of turrets and handheld weaponry would be cool.
Suggest the following:

Grenade Launcher > Uses regular grenades to give additional range and damage increase, also a turret version.
Rail gun > Uses power and new slugs ammo type to fire long range and incredible damage in straight line. The slugs also penetrate and damage all hostiles within its line of fire. This could be a turret AND a portable rail rifle.
Lightsaber > a more elegant weapon for a more civilised factory manager, a melee range weapon which one shot kills anything it hits in an arc to the front of the player.

Check the Angel and Bobs mod packs. They do stuff like this.

It is highly unlikely any other ore gets added into vanilla : the last one was uranium, and it was quite obviously mandatory to introduce nuclear (at least a radioactive metal).
Now the need has been fulfilled, I doubt there will be another one.
But as Caine suggests, this has been very much addressed in the modding sphere, with more metals/gems, and ... things you've ever dreamt of :).
