upon crash tell users to SEARCH before reporting bugs.

Post by impetus maximus »

i've lost count on how many users have reported the power pole problem in 0.16.5

i think the window that pops up after a crash should include suggesting to search if it's been reported, if not then upload logs etc.
in hopes that it would save the developers/moderators from getting hammered with duplicates.

Given how some users post crash report in the release thread right below a post saying. "Do Not Post Crash Reports Here", I really don't see the point.

Yeah, I read the directions, used the search feature with keywords like "power pole", manually looked through the entire "assigned bugs" sub-forum, and couldn't find anything related. A minute after I posted, there was somebody else with the same issue right below mine, with a comment linking it to the original. Turns out the original had a very unintuitive title like "crash on ::drawInternal" or something, so it didn't come up in the search at all. Rather than just telling users to search, tell them that their title should include the most useful keywords for other players looking for dupes, like "remove" and "power" and "pole". That alone would have saved probably dozens of reports.
