Valve signal controls?

Valve signal controls?
I'm not sure how I'm supposed to control valves. I get them from the start of the game, but there's no control on them to turn them on or off. I get combinators and signals but no signal I send them seems to change their settings. How exactly do I turn off a valve?

Re: Valve signal controls?
You don't. The signal is to read the level of the fluid in it, and that's all.
The valve is simple a one way valve, fluid enters from one side and exits the other, that's all it does.

To which my immediate response would be "What the heck is a check valve?".impetus maximus wrote:perhaps it should be renamed 'check valve'?
I agree that just "Valve" is a bit misleading as it suggests you can turn it on and off, but Check valve is not a term I've seen used before, ever... Except for one other factorio mod.
I could go with "One way valve" though.
Seriously, where I'm from, we just call it a valve. It lets things flow one way, but not the other, it's a valve.

Re: Valve signal controls?
How about calling it a pressure sensor?
As for controlled valves you need a pump for that.
