Corrupt ZIP File - My Save is now unplayable at the moment.

Post by Asephos »

Hello,

I am trying to be as calm as possible as I have just came home to Factorio telling me that my save game data file is corrupt and it would like me to delete it. I am very angry.

Please, anyone that has suggestions on how to fix this issue, please feel free to let me know, and if any game devs can help try to solve this please do your best to help me out.

Other than that, if this cant be fixed, I will most likely never play this game ever again.

Thanks.

Hi,
First, you should upload in your OP your save and your logfile. Starting from that, we'll see what we can do.
BTW : have you tried to load one of your auto-saves ?

Log? (%appdata%/factorio/factorio-current.log on Windows (if that's the last save you played))

Hi, I recently started up a new world to play with in the meantime. So I thought you might need the "factorio-previous.log"

I attached both just in case.

Thanks.

The zip file in itself has not been completely written, as if the writing process was interrupted.
Did you close the game during save, or had your computer crash/reboot during the saving process ?
If you have an advanced text editor that supports Hexadecimal editing, you can check for yourself : past the 4 MB mark, your zip file is all '0's.
I honestly doubt the game is in cause : nothing stops writing in the middle of a file like this.

Also I'm afraid I can't make use of your logfile : there is no mention to your savegame, I guess you tried several times to restart and reload, and play your new map. I was hoping we could see an error message during the saving process of your previous game.

As Koub said, the file is corrupted beyond repair. I am sorry.

We don't know what corrupts saves this way. Often people mention it happened after they turned computer off or exited Steam while Steam was still syncing saves to Steam Cloud, so it is thought to be error of Steam Cloud. Googling "Steam Cloud corrupted save" results in lot of similar posts on forums of other games, but I have not been able to reproduce the issue on my computer, so I don't know for sure.
