As a fan of the game Borderlands 2 I'd wonder if someone could make a skin-mod so that train locomotives, cars and tracks would look like those from the game. Since trains here and there are deadly and ludicrously fast in the same way, it would still fit in in a way and would give the game a more futuristic touch.
The only "difficult" thing about the trains would be, that the locomotives are a bit longer than the cars in borderlands 2, so I'd guess they need to be shortened (or cars lenghened) to fit the factorio ingame mechanics. I could/would provide screen shots if needed.
Like to hear your opinion on this and how "difficult" this would be to do.

Re: Borderlands 2 Trains and Tracks
Concerning just the difficulty part: Imho making new train models for factorio is _the_ most difficult/time intensive thing when it comes to graphic mods. Trains have many angles and several different graphic layers (for example the wheels are seperate graphics so they can turn independantly of a wagon). They also have this whole "they're longer when horizontal" thing going. There are some train mods out there tho, so some people are dedicated enough to do it.Sneaker2 wrote:Like to hear your opinion on this and how "difficult" this would be to do.

Re: Borderlands 2 Trains and Tracks
Considering the wheels; the trains have (almost) none, because they are some sort of maglev trains. The locomotives do have bogies that connect to a single centerline rail (which would be about 1 m wide in real life), but the cars all levitate above the rail. So there is that. I better give some screenshots:
I do note, that there are 2 different locomotives in the game (or just a high and low resolution version for stationary and moving trains), so dont be suprised about some minor differences in detail. The trains do have the interesting feature, that the rail can be besides and also above the train and the bogies on the locomotive seem to be more like really big pantographs than wheels for driving. While having side and above rails would be fun, that would only be an option if the mod would work with the basic ground rails; so no demand from me to implement it all at once
.
As can be seen, the locomotives are also not symetric in art and function. This should not be a hindrance to draw them like that and still work like symetric trains. If the basic mod works, maybe the functions could matter as well, but that would a whole new challenge.
