Isn't mining productivity strictly better than mining speed? You also get more resources/s, but with productivity it doesn't add to the depletion...

It would also very much shorten the lifetime of mining outposts. I don't want to spend 1 hour to build an outpost and tear it down 1 hour later because it's empty.

Infinite research would be neat to just make your factory performance just better over time. Here's some random infinite researches that would be pretty nifty to have, of course some of them should have diminishing returns.
Stone/Steel furnace productivity/speed/fuel consumption
Boiler productivity i.e. lower fuel consumption, but identical energy output (unchanged ratios)
Lamp illumination radius (customization per-entity e.g stack inserters.)
Suit battery/fusion reactor output and/or capacity
Vehicle terrain/impact/damage resistance
Roboport charging speed
Big Power Pole wire connection distance
Gun Turret ammo efficency

That should never happen : it would potentially render blueprints unusable. That's the same reason why there was no tech to upgrade underground belt size, but underground belts have been given a fixed length depending on their tier.Krazykrl wrote:Big Power Pole wire connection distance

I think the only new infinite research I'd like to see is "Logistic Bot Efficiency" - using a scale where +100% efficiency is half power usage and +900% efficiency is 1/10th power usage.
It could be something like +5% per level, making it a relatively expensive way to increase logistic bot range and reduce recharging infrastructure requirements, but worth it for a mega factory. It's also the natural complement to logistic bot speed upgrade.
