Trouble coming up with a decent set up Tier 1+

Post by Miatog »

So I have yet to launch a rocket, but I have started about a dozen times and have loads of fun. I keep running into some problem with my factory that's so bad it's easier to start over than to fix it. My best run was a 0.14 factory that stopped being effective because of the massive changes to the 0.15 science set up. I have another run now, it's going great, I have a wonderful set up and I was working on cleaning it up and setting up my trains only to find I had no idea how to do this. I have a set up I love for what I call tier 0 products. They take iron and/or copper plates and that's it. So copper wires and gears mostly.

For some reason the img tag isn't showing the image for me. Here's the link to my set up. http://imgur.com/a/Vj4eN

I'm using the Warehouse mod and it's a big reason why this set up works for me. I can easily expand it if needed and gives me a huge backlog of the materials for me to ship around. Once I get everything set up properly it'll be ultra smooth running. My problem is that I can't figure out how to efficiently transfer from here to a set up for tier 1. Previously I had just been moving things around personally while I built up my basic supply and tech. I want to, of course, move onto automation but my head can't think of a clean set up for it. I started trying to do a train set up but as I put the ghost planning down it quickly started looking ugly and messy with train planning. I know if I get a good set up for tier 1 I can use the basics for tier 2 and beyond.

In previous games I've tried to use mostly to use logistic robots to move my goods, mostly using trains just to transfer plates around. This has often created bottle neck issues though and I'm trying to rely less on robots, specially with how far I am from being able to use them effectively (ie get all the good logistic chests). But the only clean set ups I can come up with would work best with robots. My brain just functions better with robots. So much so that the last time I tried to do a main bus set up I threw the game out very quickly because I just couldn't mentally process how to make it work. I'm worried I'm running into the same problem with trying to do trains right and that I'm just going to be stuck with robots and the bottle neck they create. Anyone have some suggestions before I gave in and just slowly work my way toward a very robot heavy set up?

I am not sure how to answer you. You have made it to robots, so you are not a complete new comer. You talk about moving things around personally, which sounds like a beginner activity. Your question is pretty broad which makes it hard to make a brief answer or one that addresses the problem you encountered.

I will try to do my best. Please do not be insulted if I talk about things that you already know. Take this as a conversation starter if my response is too basic for you.

What is a tier 1 product? Is it something that uses more than one input like the large power poles that use steel and copper plate? Or is it like the red science that uses a manufactured input like the gear wheels? In either case, Xterminator has a tutorial that uses red and green science as an example of belt based manufacture. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-D0gai ... 1qZvprb0rM

Xterminator also has a tutorial in the same playlist showing how to set up a main belt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_giWwGP ... M&index=27

This is an old tutorial, so some things have changed in some of the other videos, but these two are still good.
