[RESOLVED] Unexpected Error Occurred...

Post by Volvith »

Welp, i'm a fuckin wizard apparently.
I've done it once more.
I've managed to break the game in ways i'd before not known possible! ^^
It's like i have midas touch when it comes to factorio, only everything i touch turns into a giant, red, walking ERROR sign! :D

So, i'm creating my second mod, after the first one was a success (thanks to it being 80% copy&paste work), and i've just gone through the "let's load it up and unfuck what i screwed up" stage.
It spit out a few errors, a few comma's to many, and i was a bit generous with the dashes...
After everything is "fixed", the game loads into the cropping bitmaps stage, and spits out a "Unexpected error occured."
Log
Okay then, time to come clean i suppose.
For 15.23, i've been using a pirated version of factorio, as i only own the steam version.
I KNOW, i know, i'm gonna buy the site-version, if that allows me to download older versions of the game.
It's not something i usually do, but to be perfectly damn honest, Steam is a right prick when it comes to forcing updates, and i just can't be bothered to have a backup of factorio for every steam-version out there.
Not sure how much this matters, but here ya go anyways... :/

Anyhow, i've run the game about 10 times, same result, done everything short of restarting my PC, ran it as a folder initially, although i don't think to zip or not to zip matter, as the zipped one spit out the same error.

The copied log file from the last time it ran as a folder, before compression, is included in the zipped attachment.

Once again, sorry for the whole piracy thing, i really just wish that Steam wouldn't force updates like that... o-o
Yes, i had to delete half of that sentence when writing it due to it not being forum friendly.
Or general human friendly.

Cheers!... :/

Ok, i.. i did not know that... :S
Checking it out now. :D

EDIT:
Welp, as i said, i'm a fucking wizard when it comes to being stupid.
I naturally always just assumed that the "download" button was for demos only... -_-

A fun fact about me: I'm estimated to be about 1/93rd part of a fully functioning human being. ;)

So, probably completely irrelevant:
I modded the base game to the absolute minimal extend.
I swapped out the gui.png in the base mod, and deleted the "this is a freeplay game" notice.
That's it though. :3
^ Ignore This...

Gonna test it on a stable build, see if it's the mod or the experimental 0.15.23 version.

It's really strange it crashes for you. Does it crash consistently, every time you try to run it?
When I try to run the game with your mod, I get an error

Code: Select all

   0.676 Error AtlasSystem.cpp:924: File not found:: __TTL__/graphics/entity/new-express/splitter/new-express-splitter-east.png

First off, sorry for replying so late, i was being probed by angry doctors. :3

I just looked at the zip, and realized that i uploaded the wrong attachment... -_-
This zip is before the adjustments of the graphics.
Just, bear with me for a sec, i'll add the zip in the upcoming edit.

EDIT: Correct file in the attachment now.
In the mean time, i'm gonna try and see if this problem occurs with the latest experimental and the last stable version.
Thanks for helping out. :)

Ehm, quick question, am i correct in saying that rolling back to a .14.23 version from a .15+ version bricks the 14?...
Because i'm getting a "path not matching resource path pattern" error.
The funny thing is that the lowest installation only bricks if i swap between .14 and .15 versions, most likely due to some of the major overhauls factorio has had after .15.
If i "downgrade" from 15.28 to 15.23, nothing breaks. (well, except for my mod.)
(I've heard of this happening with steam installations, only on steam it had/has something to do with steam not realizing it has updated the game, and tries to run a .14 as if it were a .15, or something along those lines.)

Anyhow, back to the mod:
Still getting the error, after looking through all the code, no mistakes found on my part.
Ran the mod in 15.28, still crashes.
It crashes consistently at 39% "cropping bitmaps", same error every time.
Same error-log, each run, aside from the x.xxx numbers (which i presume to be timestamps since startup) and a Dsound: ... ... ;tid #.

So yeah, i'm at a loss for ideas here... :/
I'll just try to see what exact file is screwing wth me here by just disabling them one at a time in data.lua.
^ Yeah, that's not possible... Did i mention i haven't slept in 31 hours? xD

I fixed the crash, it will show you proper error.

Which in this case is: you have defined icons of your items as icon = "", which is not allowed. You need to set valid icon.

Certainly not a mistake i'll make quickly again... :|

EDIT:
AAAAND it runs.
Welp, that was 5 hours of bullshite fixed in under 2 minutes... xD
