Should water flow into a crater from a nuclear explosion?

Post by mrvn »

I was thinking that realistically a exploding nuke should leave a crater and a lake touching a crater should flood the crater. So when you have a small land bridge between your base and the aliens you should be able to nuke it out of existence.

What do you think?

1) Nukes are small and explode high enough in the air not to leave a crater
2) Craters next to water should flood
3) Craters should collect rain water creating a new lake

The reverse would also apply. A nuke exploding over/in water would vaporize the water.

1) Water just floods back after the explosion leaving the lake unchanged
2) Water only flows back if there is any water left outside the destructive radius
3) the explosion puts up a crater rim preventing water to flood back

Exploding a nuke near water could also create a tsunami:

1) Just display some ripples on the water for show
2) Have a tsunami that temporarily floods the beach and destroys entities. Destruction reduced by distance.

Creating water is way too overpowered.
It keeps the Aliens from attacking you completly.

Since you don't need Alien artifacts in 0.15 anymore you can just nuke yourself a water ditch around your base and be super safe.
It's not implemented (yet?) but it seems unrealistic that Aliens can't cross water at all.

Another Point is that height is not implemented at all.
The game is limited to landfill, no hills or ditches.

A possibility to implement it would be a second type of water which looks like dirt but you can't walk over it and some rocks would spawn around the crater to imply debris.
But it would seem kind of hacked in and woulnd't improve the game or keep it balanced.

Keeping the aliens out would be the point of nuking land bridges. Nuking a ditch around your base would be costly if you don't happen to be surrounded by mostly water. But indeed possible.

To implement this height wouldn't be needed, or only temporary for the duration that water flows.

Also do bear in mind that by the time you can produce nukes at a good rate biters probably aren't your biggest worry anyway
