0.14.23 comparing combinator cannot be outpowered

Post by Radurnim »

I wanted a comparing combinator to work as a switch for a powersupply-activator if no energy is there...

As long as I have NOT attached an energy-supply to it, it worked
1. step - no power at all = no signal to open the powerswitch
1. step - no power at all = no signal to open the powerswitch

But after attaching an energypole:
2. step - powered combinator = signal to open the powerswitch
2. step - powered combinator = signal to open the powerswitch

and removing it then:
3. step - no power = no signal? no, the combinator still keeps power, that do NOT vanish
3. step - no power = no signal? no, the combinator still keeps power, that do NOT vanish

It still has energy, that CANNOT be drawn out, so he does not stop sending a signal to the power switch, what prevents it from closing and adding the solafields energy to my circuits.

A combinator without power can not change its state, but it will still send the signal from before it lost power, this is how it is intended to work. If you want a low/no power detection use an accumulators load or an inserter.

the idea is not that is change its state, the idea is just that it stops sending as a device without energy would do.

the accu-thing does work, i figured out AFTER i posted ^^

https://wiki.factorio.com/Constant_combinator
From the wiki:
If the output of a combinator is desired to be switched on/off remotely or automatically, it is recommended to channel its output through a decider combinator. This combinator does not require electricity to function like the other two combinators.
Now if the signal won't change due to using power switch, that quote is simply wrong or incomplete.
