It's not what they are for, no. What they happen to be used for, yes. I wouldn't be surprised if the developers modified the tank's properties intentionally to be effective with trees, but that is not ideal. There are only 2 vehicles in the game that don't require rails: car and tank. I think room can be made for a bonafide bulldozer that takes 0 damage clearing trees or whatever else it is designed for.

Besides, if you were stranded on a planet and had to use your limited resources the best way possible, would you build an army tank to clear forests for your production, or a legit machine for the job?

I would kind of like the car to have a handbrake for fast turns and then if you accelerate and turn with clever use of handbrake you could maybe also do donuts and waffles.
