How do I stop my robots from doing this?

Don't know how to use a machine? Looking for efficient setups? Stuck in a mission?

Do you have enough storage for your bots to empty themselves ? Maybe you can provide your save ?

I figured it out.

Either:
I put a blueprint down of my walls, and then placed it myself, and the robots didn't know what to do.
---
When I put the blueprint down, I "shift clicked" certain parts of the wall to continue placing flamethrowers in the same spot, and where the walls were blue the robots tried to place walls on top of walls they've already placed, causing them to bug out.

Solved it by using a deconstruction planner on the wall followed by "shift clicking" with the deconstruction planner to cancel the deconstruction.

Would this be a bug or is that on purpose?

I think I saw this once recently in an MP game, although not caused it personally or reproduced.

Looked like somehow a bunch of ghosts were placed "under" some other entities, but those entities were not marked for deconstruction. The bots wanted to place the ghosted entities, but were obstructed by stuff that was not going to be removed.
The player building the stuff I believe just deleted the ghosts with a filtered deconstruction planner to fix it.
