Yep, it'd be great. Make it take solid fuel/coal and produce a decent amount of power.

Charge power armor from electric grid

Post by Hroch »

Subject says it everything :)

I would like to be able to recharge my power armor from electric grid. This could be helpful when player still does not have fusion reactor. There could be limitation that player have to remains till at least for 1second to begin charging. Or maybe be in direct touch of any electric pole.

Maybe some power armor item item to allow that? Electric plug? Remote tesla transmiter? (too steampunk I guess)

I am pretty sure that I used a very well polished mod recently which allowed to do just that. Something about electro in the name, check the mod portal. Worked brilliantly.

I think this mod have a working plug: viewtopic.php?f=93&t=14894&start=200
The version for 0.13 worked great, but haven´t tested the 0.14 version (yet).

I was just about to open a new thread with this suggestion when I discovered it had already been suggested several years beforehand.

So I guess I will just resurrect this thread instead of opening a new identical one. :)

It takes me a very long time to recharge my batteries in my Power Suit Mk1 using only portable solar panels (I have not researched the fusion generator yet). Since my base has lots of surplus power, it would be logical to recharge my power suit somehow using my base's power supply.

Please make this stock :)
https://mods.factorio.com/?q=chargepack

(It may be a little over-powered: I have no problem powering 4 roboports in mk1 power armour now. No shields, 1 exoskelleton, 2 charge packs.)

And maybe remove the reactor entirely, or make it very very expensive.

o_O.
Interesting approach. I considered something similar to that before, but just for charging and discharging batteries for power transmission. Like Minecraft Industrialcraft re-batteries.

Script-wise it is really cheap at least. No loop, no constant looking for stuff, just event on equipment change.

It'd be great if you could also plug your armour into the power network to supply power, for example you could put down a laser turret in an emergency, stand near it, and it would drain power from your armour to fire

Regrettably, the mod currently lacks that feature.
This one does it however.

For now at least. Once I figure out why it refuses to work I can reenable it.

The original poster's suggestion has already been suggested in the following thread:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6866 Local power connector module for modular armor

EDIT: Now that the threads have been merged, my link above now points to the current thread.

Allow Armors to charge on power poles

Post by MrFaul »

Well the idea is simple,

allow the modular/power armor to be charged in the supply area of power poles.
Helps very much in the mid game when you just researched the tech :-D

I fully agree with the suggestion.

However, it has already been suggested in the following thread:

old idea. still a good one.

I was thinking this topic would probably end up getting merged into the old topic... by Ssilk... has anyone seen him around lately?

This is something vanilla really lacks for early-mid game when fusion reactor is not available yet but player drastically needs personal roboport and other stuff. This will make even more use of personal batteries as they will really start to matter.

And can't avoid to remind devs of how bad PSP are...
