I had an idea for rockets.
What if you limited the size of the map and called it a planet (the planet you start on would be biger) and when you launch a satilite the whole map would be reviled. There would be difrent tips of rocets (suttle, cargo... ) whit tese you could travel to difrent planets whitch would have difrent amounts of recourses, difrent biter populations, difrent sizes (very smal, small, medium, larg, very larg, gigantic), difrent typs (moons, planets, voulcano planets, ice planets, gas giants...), and so on.
This is so that you would be forsed to go to other planets and build production bases and mine for resources.
The rocets you would launch woud dictate the fule cost, amount of things you could cary (the more things you have the grater the fule consumption). There could also be a tipe of space stacion construction thea you nedded to launch rockets to build ( these would cost an insane amount of resources and tecnology). The benifit would be you could build a mini production center on them. Theas stations could be around planets or could be moved by engine components whitch would lower fule consumption (i am exscluding the time of travel becouse i think that it woul be tidies just having to sit there douing nothing fo like 5 min)

Technically speaking, the maximum size the map can possibly be is quite small, when one considers the size of a planet. Enforcing an even smaller limit is pretty much out of the question, mainly because of the resource limits it would impose (it would be possible that there aren't enough resources to leave the planet, or it could be made to be the case from poor planning). There are also issues inherent with revealing the entire map, mainly dealing with memory constraints.
The "go to other planets" idea would need a lot of rethinking (especially relating to the transportation itself, since there needs to be a high-throughput solution), but ultimately it might not even make sense for Factorio, considering what exists of the story. However, there was talk about space stations quite some time ago, if memory serves correctly.

i was thinking that the size would be a lot smaler than a real planet. perhaps a large planet would just be the most you can zoom on the map rigt now
