[0.15.5] Shift-click power pole has no range limit.

Post by credomane »

Hold shift and clicking a power pole to remove the wire does not have a limit on range. You can even use the new world map view and disconnect wires from across nauvis.

I did it absent-minded at some point and wondered why part of my base had no power. After playing around I discovered I could disconnect wires from pole from anywhere. Don't think that is intended.

[edit]
Added the strike as it no longer seems possible to do this from the radar/map view.

Thanks for the report,

I cannot reproduce this, do you have some mod like 'long reach' enabled?

I'm not a fan of infinite reach mods. I do use a personalized version of the double reach mod that doubles reach if and only if reach is < 10. Default reach is 6, I think? So it should not have been that as the max would only be 18 in that case. Not near far enough to disconnect wires on a power pole located in distant outpost. I should also be able to re-add the wires and/or rebuild the pole to fix the wires. All of which I could not do so I never suspected a long reach mod issue. Plus I always try to replicated possible bugs in vanilla Factorio to eliminate that possibility.

There were a lot of circuit network and circuit wire fixes shortly after I made this bug reports. It is entirely possible this bug got resolved as a coincidence of resolving one of those. I'll try again with 0.15.11 in a while when I get home and check my rail world save that I originally discovered this on for what mods + versions I was using at the time. I haven't played it since shortly after the bug report because I moved onto Reddit's May Community Map.

I can still do this in pure vanilla 0.15.11. I've even attached an example save.

Image

Stay on the bricks and zoom way out. Hold shift and left-click the big power pole that is also on bricks. If that doesn't work check the game controls for whatever your "Remove Pole Cables" keybinding is and use that instead.
Cables are removed. I expected the action to be denied since it is clearly far outside of the vanilla range for everything else the player can do. It is outside of the build range so you can't even replace the cables without moving closer!
