What does pollution do if you can just wipe out the aliens?

I just finished playing the game and build the awesome missile defense . And I have to say I just felt to be the evil one in that game. You know I am the one who is the guest on the alien Planet, but all I did was stealing their resources and polluting their environment. And as soon as the aliens complained about my act, I just wiped them out. This doesn't feel like I am doing the right thing. But yea somehow it is funny .

I consider the pollution "terraforming." I mean, look, the guy crash-lands with tools for making coal-burning machines and steam engines. This doesn't strike me as some kind of eco-friendly future civilization.

For all we know, humanity *requires* lethal levels of CO2 in the air in order to survive.

Don't worry, there's always more biters. In a way they'd make a very good food source. Feed pollution, harvest biters.
