Basically something to mimic the Stargate series where we see people jump through a gate and get onto another environment. I am aware of mods like Factorissmo, The Long Nauvis and one just called "Surfaces", I was just wondering - by asking more experienced people - the level of limitations based on the base code of the game.
As far as I know right now, the new "surface" would inherit all the values of the old one, as in, the same Evolution factor for biters, locked night/day cycle etc, and the same Mods.
I had basically been wondering if it was possible to add a dangerous new surface class "moon" for example with no atmosphere, meaning it can only be navigated with Modular Armour AND oxygen modules, or or a lava world, or a water world ... you get the idea. It would give players the ability to just sit in their own "safe" bases on the homeworld, or play a higher risk mini-scenario and explore new and more dangerous surfaces for resources.
Extra "surfaces" in the form moons, planets etc possible?

As far as I know, it would have the same limitations.
For the atmospheric changes, that is beyond my knowledge of the game at this moment, but my gut feeling tells me that it wouldn't be easy to try and do.
What you should be able to do though, is have a unique Biome, and although this wouldn't change how Toxic the environment is to the player, it should allow you to specify certain objects that can spawn there, such as different alien nests that can let out more horrific creatures as lower factors.

The new surface inherits some of those values, but some values (day/night cycle and terrain generation rules in particular) are specified per-surface.Taurondir wrote:As far as I know right now, the new "surface" would inherit all the values of the old one, as in, the same Evolution factor for biters, locked night/day cycle etc, and the same Mods.

I'm planning on making a mod like this once I've added the remaining features to AAI. It will basically be an extension of the Alien Biomes mod. The initial version will be mostly cosmetic but subsequent versions will have increasingly complex mechanics per surface.
