Saving games to USB?

Post by undeadnightorc »

I'd like to play Factorio on two different computers but can't seem to get the program to read my saves on my usb stick. I normally use Link Shell Extension which works well with other games, but I can't get it to work with Factorio.

I read the info in the config-path.cfg file but it was very crptic for me (attempt to change the value to false just gave me an access denied error).

My OS is Windows 7 64.

Have you tried just to manually copy the savegames (the zip-file) from the save-folder to usb and than from there to the other savefolder? I often have transferred saves that way via internet and it worked without problems.

Go and download ZIP version instead. That version is saving any savegames in the same folder as Factorio. So it can be used from USB drives, network drives, etc. Some pepole even put it into DropBox folder which automatically synchonizes it between all computers.

You can also just create a symlink (on Windows, the utility is named MKLINK and called with "MKLINK /D name target_path"), with target_path in quotes.. I use this for a lot of games and other programs in order to make them save to dropbox.

That's the simplest solution but I'd rather have the process done automatically. I know for a fact that there will be days when I will forget to manually copy/paste the saves, lol.

Ah, I didn't realize there was a difference between the zip and exe versions. Thankfully the game is so small (170mb) so sticking it in my usb drive should be no problem at all. I think I'll try this method, thanks!

Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.
