Hello,
so here is my current situation:
I have a big logistics network, with tons and tons of both kinds of robots.
BUT: the robot numbers are fluktuating quite a bit, as have bots deconstruct roboports depending on if they are needed or not.
This in turn then has construction robots empty the robots in that roboport into chests.
What I have tried so far is the usual inserter -> roboport. The problem I run into with that everytime is that at some point the roboport is just full. Sure, from time to time some leave, but still ...
So here is my question:
Is there a reliable way to place robots (logistic/construction)?
I am aware that the mod "Robot Army" has the robot assembler, that does just that for its own battle robots.
I am open for input

Re: Automatic Robot Placing
Well, if the Roboport is full you don't really need any more robots

You mean when the 1(!) roboport that I insert the robots into is full? My current network are 762 roboports ....
It is not the "need" part. More then "can" part

Re: Automatic Robot Placing
Roboports can give you the numbers of robots. Combinators and a chest, and... voila.
Now, of course, if your robots are idle most of the time, that won't work. Never had that happen as far as I'm aware, though.
And I finally could put that blueprint in the library for later games, sweet.

Well yes, I have tried that. But for example my roboport fills up with construction bots, because they have nothing to do at that point in time.
And I very rarely use all of my 35k construction robots or 40k logistic robots.
But the game tells me I have placed 90k logistic robots so far. But I only have 45k in all my networks ....
That is due to deconstructing roboports with robots inside.
I am just looking for a reliable way to automate that

Well, if the network needed more robots then it'd call them from that roboport. That it hasn't yet means they aren't needed, so you likely don't need robots in the ports. But you could have more logistic chests that request robots in various parts of the network that would have an inserter for each. Should help distribute the extras better.Bardaky wrote:onebit wrote:Well, if the Roboport is full you don't really need any more robots
