Electric Networks Map Lines - Lines not Lining Up

I love the new electric networks map, and I'm a bit anal about my pole placement now that I have such a neat visualization. I refuse to ever place a pole that connects to another pole at an angle. But then I got to large poles. They're two wide. They don't line up exactly with the small poles. There's no way to connect them without making the nice neat lines look messed up.

Every time I look at this it makes me more upset. That one on the top right is especially irritating. It runs to an outpost really far off screen. But it's gonna have to get replaced because it messes up the whole thing. It's gonna be medium poles for everything in my base I guess.

Does this illustrate the problem? The small poles have their wire connection in the centre and thus not grid aligned, the big poles are centre and grid aligned both.

The solution would be to grid align the electrical connection for the small poles.

Yeah that seems to be the issue. I'm sure it's about 1000x more work than it's worth to fix. Which means I'll just have to spend the rest of forever using nothing but small and medium poles. Oh well.

They are updating the graphics for high res anyway. Maybe they'd consider it if you made a suggestion. You aren't the only Factorio player who likes stuff to line up nicely, plenty of players work hard on elegant designs.

High res graphics, enhanced map colours and non-square resource tiles use up important developer time and have no benefit for the whole game play. Aesthetics matter, we like pretty stuff.

JPUT has only made two posts total and both in this thread. If I were to hazard a guess I say this one issue was important enough for him to create an account and make this thread.

if its just the aesthetics, maybe it is not too harsh on your eyes to arrange the interfaces between medium and long-range poles/substations at 45° angles?

_I_ could live with that and i am rearranging belts constantly because their paths do not look nice.

Optionally, you could use Big Poles and Substations only, since those both align to center and center grid, being 2x2 each.

If this suggestion doesn't make the cut in the current pole redesign (Friday Facts #195 - Poles re-design) then it is unlikely to ever happen and should be moved to "Outdated/Not implemented".

Aesthetics matter: I like ugly stuff. I like the car and the loco I wish I could get 1x1 long wire power poles though.

@JPUT I am glad I'm not the only one who is driven a little nuts by the large poles not lining up with the small.

@jona5 great suggestion on the 45 degree angles!
