For an item that's named "Steel plate", it definitely looks more like a bar or a rail.
Is this an artifact of something changed in previous versions?
Steel bars are named steel plates.

It's by design so the name matches the other plates.
Simply because it being a bar icon makes it easier to understand compared to a white plate and us saying "it's steel"
