Hi,
Does anyone know if it's possible to have a dual install config (without dual boot or the like) ? I am in the middle of a 0.14 game which I don't want to abandon, but I also want a peek at the 0.15 features. I'd be happy if I had to back up my %APPDATA%/Factorio folder if that was all that I needed to do to switch. I could give it a go, but it's a pain installing and uninstalling to try it, if someone already knows how.

Dual install on single machine (0.14/0.15)
Re: Dual install on single machine (0.14/0.15)
You can download the zip file from https://www.factorio.com/download, and put your game in its save directory. It will work standalone.
And you can then update your Steam install to 0.15

You can also opt in and out of the .15 beta on steam. Steam will redownload whatever version you want to play at the time. You'll need two save files of your base or start a new one in .15. This is probably an easier option to use, but I think Koub's idea is better if you want to play for a significant time on either version.

If you're running two versions you're going to want to use a script to rename/swap two copies of the game config/saves/etc directory.

As Koub already said, using the zip versions is perfect for that.
I have one for 0.12 when I want to play a good old Dytech round, 0.14 with Bob's Mod and the latest 0.15 for Vanilla to enjoy all the new goodies.
For backup i just save the mods-, save- and config-folder beside the zips.
