0.15 boiler ratio?
0.15 boiler ratio?
yeah.... like topic says, too many smart people here to "waste" my own time and headache haha
Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
1 boiler to 2 engines
Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
2 boilers - 5 engines works fine in my game
I'm not english, sorry for my mistakes
Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
Not on full load.Ohz wrote:2 boilers - 5 engines works fine in my game
Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
im testing with 7boilers to 10 steam engine. not sure its 100% since i can only monitor the workload during night when the solar panels are off
Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
It was said by devs - 1 boiler to 2 engines exactly.

ahh okey, sweet! thanks
Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
1 pump = 20 boiler with 2 steam engine for 1 boiler.
More boiler and they will not have enough water, nearly no water in fact.
More engine per boiler make the third engine and those after it not working at all.
1 pump support enough steam engine (40) for 38MW !

Want more space restriction ? Or maybe you want to be forced to use train for other thing than ore and oil ? Try Building Platform Mod !

On a related thing, the amount of coal used seem to have increased a lot? My burner inserters seem to work full time now.

Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
They use more, but I don't think much more than they did before. It's just that you only need 5 boilers for 10 engines now, when before you needed 14 so they single boiler is chugging down about 3x the coal a single boiler did before.Daid wrote:On a related thing, the amount of coal used seem to have increased a lot? Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
You also get nearly double the power from each engine (it's 900 kW now)5thHorseman wrote:They use more, but I don't think much more than they did before. Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
With the increased power output and less boilers, it makes sense.
Does anyone else feel the 2:1 ratio is a bit boring? Now you just put 1 pump, a row of boilers, and engines directly connected to it. No room for optimalization.
2.3:1 might have been a better fit. Then you can do:
2:1 - Shortage of 0.3 engine
3:1 - Wastes 0.7 engine
5:2 - Wastes 0.4 engine
7:3 - Shortage of 0.1 engine
9:4 - Shortage of 0.2 engine
14:6 - Wastes 0.2 engine
16:7 - Shortage of 0.1 engine
23:10 - Perfect.
So if you want to pull the maximum out of everything, you get a lot of pluming.

Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
I don't really think older balance was any more interesting. 99% of the time, I just had 14 boilers + 10 engines in a blueprint I'd spam as needed. Changing it to 1:2 didn't make it any less boring imho.
Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
Actually I think as well that it doesn't matter if it is 1:2 or whatever else. 1:2 makes it easier though to get the ratio straight, which wasn't possible before without wasting at least a little bit.
And when it comes to the layouts there are more possible solutions now than before.
Before 0.15 it almost always resulted in a line of boilers followed by a line of Steam Engines behind them.
But now you have a choice of either placing the Steam Engines after the line of boilers (basically like 0.14) ... or perpendicular to it due to the perpendicular Steam output.
That makes it a little bit more interesting with what setups people will come up with to make the most energy out of a shoreline or in relation to other design goals.

Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
pump : boiler : steam engine

probably going to use this setup for the starting base...
when you get up further in the tech tree you're probably going to progress to other power means...
so really doesn't matter if it more boring or not...
like before 0.15 everyone was doing solar spam etc... =P

Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
you've seen everyone base ? There are a lot of people that don't use solar. And the new nuclear can't be used efficiently only by itself.dougtheduck wrote:like before 0.15 everyone was doing solar spam etc... =P

Re: 0.15 boiler ratio?
you could do perpendicular connection to boilers in 14.22 as well. just noticed it in my new game. (no rush for upgrade to 0.15; still got lots of the normal stuff to learn...)
