[Help] Power production monitoring

So I want to make a mod that either adds a Virtual circuit or an entity (maybe even both) that measures the amount of power production in Watts, I was trying to dig through mod codes and even base game code to find how to do this but I haven't the slightest Idea how to do this as there isn't a straight forward way to do it and I would like some help with working this out.

Only way I know of is making power go thru the entity. I made a proof of concept mod a while ago:
