info.json

Post by TapeGun007 »

I have paid a company to give me a dedicated Factorio server.

Currently, they cannot get just generate a random map, I have to generate it in my copy of Factorio, then upload it to them. When doing so, I went to my AppData/Roaming/Facotorio/Scenarios/<map name> and in that folder there is only a blueprint.dat file. But I noticed on other custom maps there are other files like info.json.

The new map that I spent hours on creating didn't generate a info.json, therefore I can never upload it, and thus the server will not work.

How do I get one generated?

I think you misunderstood them. They don't want you to upload a scenario, they just want a savefile from your saves directory because they are not able to create a new game directly.

If you want to upload the scenario you created then start a new game with it in Factorio (Play --> Custom Scenario) and save it, then upload the savefile. It will contain the info.json.

Ok. All I really wanted is to upload a custom map, not a scenario per se, but that is where the custom maps save. So I'll start playing the map for a second, save the game, and then send them the zip file I guess is what you're saying.

Yes, exactly. Any savefile will do and you wouldn't have needed to create a custom map (although you certainly can), simply starting a normal new game, saving it and uploading it also works.
