I usually use the colemak keyboard layout. Of course this is not ideal for playing Factorio. The obvious solution is to switch to the QWERTY layout when playing. Except this does not work. The game is stuck on the layout that it was opened with. I can close the game and change the default layout to QWERTY and reopen the game, then it works fine. (See attached image)
I'm using Fedora 25 and running Gnome 3.22 under Wayland.

Does Linux not have a feature similar to DirectInput? Keybinds should be independant from keyboard layout and register keycodes, not letters as interpreted by your OS.

I don't consider this a real problem. Don't change the layout after starting the game.

Problem here is the following: once you start game with wrong layout, you have to restart it to be able to move/open recipes/etc.
