It's mostly a question of when the limit is reached. If 99% of players never have to think about designing for performance, then it's fine.  The limit just happens to be well beyond current consumer hardware capabilities. In fact, MOST of the programs actually are bound by user inputs at one level or another, the "infinitely scalable problems" are not that useful for real world applications.
