Save File Location on Mac OS?

Post by MBAustin »

I've been playing on my PC for a while and would like to be able to continue where I left off on my macbook. Normally I would just copy over the save data, however I can't seem to find the save file location on my mac (when I create a save with a unique name in the Mac version, nothing comes up when I search for the name in finder even with hidden files set to visible). Any idea where they're stored, and/or if OSX/Windows save data is cross compatible? Thanks!

https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... _Directory

Btw: For windows I'm not sure if that is the right place (i took the paths just from some thread, and found now out that I changed my windows installation a bit so, if I use this path, it doesn't work for me and I don't know if this is just for me or all others) but for MacOS I'm really sure and Linux looks pretty easy.

So, please, if some of the readers can check, if that is really the right windows path? Would be useful. Thanks.

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Factorio is where my saves are located.

It depends on the package type, but on windows it is like this:
  • Zip package is just one Factorio directory that doesn't need to be installed, all the saves are there locally easy to find.
  • Installation package needs to follow the rights rules, so it works with UAC. In that case the factorio directory is where you install it (Program files by default) and the user data (saves, player data etc) are stored in the C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Factorio

The Application Support directory given on the wiki doesn't have a factorio folder in it on my machine, despite the game running/saving fine. Any ideas?

I don't see a zip installer available for OSX on the download page, just a .dmg

Never mind, I thought I had hidden files visible in Finder but it turns out I didn't. It might make more sense if on the wiki page the path was given as some variant of "users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Factorio/", since at least on my machine there is also a different Library folder with an Application Support directory directly under Macintosh HD that does not contain the game files.

For your future reference, on Mac OS (and any other UNIX derived OS), "~" refers to the user's home directory.
