Mods for survival mode

Post by carn1x »

What mods out there can add more of a survival flavour to the game?
* Oxygen
* Food
* Heat (Seasons?)
* Bleeding
* Fatigue
* More varied enemies / AI

Whilst the above might be seen to recreate something like Minecraft, obviously that and no other games can offer the finesse of Factorio's automation and scaling, and often when I play those games one thing that usually gets on my nerves is how the survivability aspect of it doesn't scale.

*Oxygen, food and water are "interesting" (tedious) mechanics until you have some way of automating it, then it's just a nuisance to have to restock them occasionally.
*Heat, not sure where you're going with that. Keeping cool? Might as well be a stamina bar and nobody likes those, same thing for fatigue. If you mean to affect your machines, just no.
*Bleeding? Might as well be a poison. Potentially but I don't think it would add much gameplay.
*Enemies might see some changes in 0.16 after the combat changes have had some time to settle in. There's always mods though, try Bob's Enemies. Ouch.

Just note that Factoio isn't a survival game, if you want it to be you should look into mods.

Sounds like you want to play "Don't starve" not "Factorio"

But quick search reveals this: https://mods.factorio.com/mods/maroder/hardcorio

Actually I came from Don't Starve to Factorio precisely because DS devolved into a walking simulator very early on. The automation and logistics puzzles of Factorio are exactly the sort of thing I was looking for, but with the chaos of surviving a harsh environment.

I suppose one of the major issues of survival + scalability is that being a single person, you very early scale beyond their basic needs and it becomes a annoyance. For this reason I've been dreaming of a mod that replaces the avatar with a populace which acts as a workforce similar to electricity in that it provides a coverage area but with a lot more needs such as food, and growth over time.

I accept that what I'm asking for isn't Factorio. But Factorio provides the closest foundation that I'm aware of and its high moddability and popularity means I have to ask :)

Derp, my bad. Still, I think you'll find a lot of the stuff you're asking for is more interesting on paper.

Though you might want to check out the Supply challenge, it's pretty tricky to finish and has a sort of survival feel about it. Note there is no pollution in this mode.
