cheat mod for current version

Post by kingdark »

Hi,
since the old mod hasn't been updated in five months, and since I don't have the faintest clue how to update it so it IS compatible with the current version, this way is probably the best way to ask for it.
The mod I am referring to that exists (but is outdated) allows cheats through the building of a gift box of sorts that allows instantaneous item creation. Now, I could probably do without that, but the thing that was more important to me was the electrical pole cheat item. it has a HUGE range. MUCH more then the standard items.

Now, I did a few searches to see if there isn't something similar that OP's the electrical pole alone but as far as I can find there isn't. Now, I would prefer for the existing mod to be updated to the current version but since that seems unlikely to happen, I figure that asking for a fresh cheat item mod that does something similar might have more success.

Failing that though... A single mod with the same HUGE range of the electrical pole would be awesome. Hell, it wouldn't HAVE to be a cheat item per se, say a really expensive form of advanced electrical pole would be acceptable as well!

If I knew how to do this myself then I would do so, unfortunately that isn't the case and from what googling I have done so far, I don't think there is a guide that tells me how to do something similar to my purposes.

If you don't use the mod and don't know what the problem is, then it says something about the cheat night vision goggles missing in prototype or something along those lines.

I returned to the older version so that it would be compatible again and it didn't have any problem at all, so it HAS to be something based on the new version. Does anyone know how to contact the author? Does anyone have a link that may help me? Just sending me a link to a few general guides won't help much though, but if there is an article out there that CAN help me, please let me know.

That being said, am I allowed to 'update' a mod like that and then share it with the rest of you? If it mentioned that I am not the original creator I mean. I wouldn't want to take credit for it, just that I updated it to make it compatible...

Your best bet for a replacement would be to look at creative-mode https://mods.factorio.com/mods/Mooncat/creative-mode

If your looking from something that just makes big range electrical poles. I don't think there is anything currently available on the mod portal, but it would be pretty easy to make a small mod that adds one.

Depending on the license you can update/change a mod and share it. But with the existing creative-mode mod being all powerful (and easy to use) putting time into updating an older mod might not be worth it.

I have played around a little with the options and while it is VERY close to what I want, it isn't actually quite what I need. Isn't there a guide or something that would let me build an electric pole with a huge range and supply? That's what bothers me the most, if I need to go over a long distance. I wouldn't even mind if it was ridiculously expensive, after a while I would be able to afford it anyway.

This mod adds power poles with the same (and larger) supply area than the cheat box mod: https://mods.factorio.com/mods/Aidan647 ... tofactorio

I've also updated the cheat box mod to 0.14 by changing the version tag and adding the missing categories property to equipment:
cheat_1.1.2.zip
(131.91 KiB) Downloaded 153 times
The license for that mod is MIT, therefore you are allowed to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the mod, as long as the license notice is included in the mod (allowing others to do the same).

I have a question, is there a way for the creative mod to be able to override certain values that the 'cheat mod' does? For example, the pickup reach is a big too big for me (but I already figured out how to modify it to suit me) it would however be much easier if the values could be over-ridden ingame. Can this be done?

There is already a Super Electric Pole since the first version of the mod.
Maybe you have not enabled the Creative recipes so you can't see it? Enable them via the menu -> Cheats -> Team Cheats -> Creative tools' recipes : enable. ;)
(I will rework on the initial popup so that the CM recipes are always enabled by default. I have seen too many people facing the same problem. :? )

Menu -> Cheats -> Personal Cheats
There are many distance-related options you can play with. ;)

Thank you for your answer. I'm really happy that you updated the cheat box mod since my own clumsy attempts at fixing it failed completely.
