Upgrade to Furnace Attendant at a later time possible?

Hi,

Just tried your the demo and really like Factorio and want more. But I can't really decide if I need the scenario pack :D

So is it possible to buy the 'Transport Belt Repair Man' and then upgrade it to 'Furnace Attendant' at a later time?
