[0.14.20] Unplayable multiplayer, lag spikes in late game

[0.14.20] Unplayable multiplayer, lag spikes in late game

Hey there,

we recently started playing factorio again and after having paused for half a year. After some inital latency problems with hosting between the two of us, we decided to rent a server online. Still, the latency problems are there. During the first few hours everything was ... kinda ... ok, but now that we have expanded a bit it's getting more and more of a problem. Attacking enemies for example is next to impossible. Rubberbanding up to the game simply not accepting movement input anymore and so forth. We're playing the game only with 2 people on a rented 4 player server. The CPU of the server is at ~50% while playing so that should'nt be a problem. I guess. We both checked and we both have15-25ms latency to the server. Up and Downstream is also no problem, as we have both pretty big cable lines. The map we play on is around 12MB big if that's important.

Any ideas? Any advice for us to try? Any settings we could play around with?

Seems to be especially bad when we use weapons. Doesn't matter if we are next to each other or way across the map. On my (somewhat better) rig it's not as bad but on my friends pc he sometimes can't even move due to huge latency gaps while firing his weapon or watching me fire mine.

Edit:
Now it seems my friend gets continually "stuck" walking on the same spot for 10 to 30 seconds during normal play with latency between 10 and 20 ms but very high "jumps" in the multiplayer statistics of up to 250 ... whatever those "jumps" are. Packet loss maybe?

When you engage in combat the latency hiding system is disabled. That might be the cause of some of the spikes
