0.13.20 Crashes when loading on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

I am using Factorio 0.13.20 Vanilla (no mods). I just downloaded it on my new computer which is running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I downloaded the factorio_alpha_x64_0.13.20.tar.gz file and extracted it into my downloads folder. Every time I launch the game from the /Dowloads/Factorio/bin/factorio file, the game will begin to load, play music for a short period, then crash when nearing 100% of loading sprites. I don't know where to find crash logs, so I am unable to provide them unless I am told where to get them on Ubuntu. Thank you for your help. Perhaps I installed it wrong and don't know. If so please tell me how to install properly.

Hi, name of the log is factorio-current.log and it is either in ~/.factorio/ or /Dowloads/Factorio/
