[0.13.20] Furnace and raw material request

Post by Gnark »

Hi guys,

First sorry for my english and then even if I have done some search on the forum sorry if this has already been submitted.

The description is simple.

Usually my furnace stop requesting raw material when there is enough to build two more object ( so 10 iron plate or 2 copper/iron or 4 stone).
But for sometime between 10-20% of the case my furnace request one more feed from the arm that feed them.
With a arm that carry one piece of raw mat I have so 11 iron plate in the raw mat box or 3 copper/iron etc ... and next time it will just stop feeding at 10.

This is really annoying me :/

Can you please have a look ?
Thanks

That's just how they work. The inserter was already in-progress of delivering the item and so it finished. That's not a bug.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

Sorry but you may have miss my point.

I use inserter that pick up only 1 item.
So there were 2 time number of raw material in my furnace and it sometime (rare) furnace ask for more even if there is this number in the raw mat stack.

I am totally aware that if there is less than 2 time the material, furnace will request some material and if inserter pick more the time they arrive in the furnace they will be more in the furnace.
That is not what I am talking about.

What I am talking about is furnace with 10 iron plate or 2 copper/iron or 4 stone requesting for more in some case (10-20% of the time) . Requesting is important it is not getting some more witch may be normal.

How could this be normal ?
A factory isn't supposed to act the same way when the same condition occurs ?
Why most of the time when I have 10 iron plate in the raw mat my furnace does not ask for more and why sometime when there is 10 iron plate in the raw mat my furnace ask for more ??

I also add that of course I have only one inserter to fill the furnace, 1 by 1. There is 9 in the furnace it add one more to 10. Then there is 10 and most of the time it stop adding. But sometime the inserter come back grab one more and put the 11 in the raw stack ... just why only sometime it ack like this ?

If the same condition would indeed occur it would act the same way all the time, if not the game would not work in multiplayer.
While there are several reasons for your observation, the most likely one would be, that you have some level of inserter capacity bonus researched.

You are right for the multiplayer part, but I see what I describe. I will try to make a video.
And then perhaps get the explanation.

But I am sure this is not the inserter capacity bonus as I see the 10 raw mat then the 11 raw mat. If this was due to any bonus I would have just 9 to 11 with one step.

Hi I have made a video.

As you can see here : https://youtu.be/9-dl18Mmsj4
The furnace is feed 1 by 1 by only 1 inserter, it stop at 10 most of the time but this time it goes to 11 (the second one in the video, the first is 10).

On the 8 furnace running on the video as you can see it happen to 2.

Why please ?

Can you reproduce with an inserter without circuit connection?

Nope the circuit connection make my inserter pick up only one item. Without it, it will pick up 3.
This part work well :)

Humm Issue or not I don't know but I style don't understand why I get those random results. Why sometime it stop at 10 and sometime at 11.
I am just to far in the techno search to have any inserter that work with only 1 item. So I have to work with circuit network for that.
But as I was searching to reproduce the bug I think I discorver how this work and why I get those results.

I think the inserter has some type of memory that store 1 request. So even if it is completing a request it accept and other one.

That strange I was thinking inserter were not accepting item resquest if they were doing so (ie carrying an object). At least even if the inserter is not in the state "ready to pick up" I though that it wait to finish their delivery task to accept and other one but no. It just accept the task even if it is doing it.
