Efficient Priority Splitter!!!

Post by Juggla »

I have been seeing all kinds of incarnations of the "priority Splitter" based on Arumba/Steejo's setup. All of them have kinks and flaws. Some of them have problems unless you have maximum throughput on the belt at all times. Other ones have leaks that allow cargo to get through even if the belt your checking isn't full. I just wasn't happy with everything I have found. So I decided to think good and hard on how to make it work. I went through tons of combinater combinations, and different network priorities. And just as I was about to give up it hit me .......... It was way more simple than anyone has made it.

I have created a leak-free splitter that is cheap and does EXACTLY what I want regardless of throughput. The problem with all the current splitters is that they are reading a moving belt at the start of a branch, and trying to figure out how to tell when it's full. The idea is that you want full throughput of your bus going into 1 high volume belt. Unless, of course, that belt is supplying all of the machines on the line. Then you want your material to continue down the bus. So what that means is as long as any cargo is making it to the end of the belt then you have enough throughput. At that point you can allow the rest of the bus to get some of it. So I wire up the last tile of belt on the branch line and set it to read/hold. Run your wire down the line to the splitter and wire it up so to "enable if anything >0". There ... that's all ... it's that easy!!!

So basically it's the same idea as the original one brought to you by Arumba/Steejo, except we are checking the end of the belt instead of the beginning. And it leaves a smaller footprint on your bus.

EDIT: Within a minute or two of posting this and watching the splitter for problems I had an epiphany. With lower throughput on your bus >0 is allowing to much to get through the splitter and causes Spikes and valleys in production on the branch. If your looking for FULL throughput, and be sure all machines are working at full capacity on any specific branch, than >5 is the most appropriate since the minimum a "full belt tile" holds is 6. But you cna also leave it at a lower number if your do not need 100% capcity but also want a priority set from the belt.

Please let me know if you can improve on this. I would love some input!
