Hey, i usually had 8GB RAM in my PC, a couple days ago a RAM-stick died.
With 4 GB RAM however there were issues:
- during loading screen, when starting the game, the color of the bar turned pink, the factorio symbol disappeared
- the main menu did not properly load
- in the game everything was just black

(been using mods ofc and Windows 7)

when i did put in my old 2 GB RAM stick, so that i got 6 GB RAM everything was properly working again.

Steam still says minimum requirement is 2 GB RAM and recommended is 4 GB RAM, that may needs to be adjusted.

It's also possible your other RAM stick is dying, corrupting values and causing the odd behaviour you're seeing. Adding the new RAM has shifted where Factorio is running out of the affected area(s) so it's not a problem any more.

Recommend getting some diagnostic software (if it's a Dell they have pretty good boot tools, otherwise Hirens might have something and I think there are some Windows tools but they're not as comprehensive) and doing a thorough scan.

RAM doesn't die often, but it is also one of the easier things to test. Get memtest, install on a spare flash stick, and let it grind out overnight. There are free versions everywhere.

We had a whole box of failed RAM at work ^^ we only found out when we needed a stick and pretty much every one we had was dead. Good times.
