Same mechanic is useful to switch other stuff. Constant combinators for example.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

How can I use it to just toggle on/off the switcher? I use logical network but didn't use constant combinator yet.

Question, would this override wire conditions? Or would this only apply to unwired switches?

As I understood it it's as switching the switch by hand. Just faster access. So the answer is no, it won't override the circuits condition.

Power Switch QoL

Post by Syrchalis »

It feels clunky to use, because you always have to open the UI and click the tiny box that is the on/off button. This makes its use unpleasant and pretty much unacceptable if you want to quickly turn something off.

Solution:
Ctrl-Leftclick on the object should switch from on to off and vice versa.

At the very least you could make the button bigger, because it is really damn tiny for a button in a PC game, especially since it's the only thing in that UI. It's even smaller than the circuit/logistics network buttons in the top right corner.

You are right, manual utilisation of this is a bit hard.

Their true purpose in my opinion is to use it automatically within circuit network.

Same goes with constant combinator... and maybe other devices, if they are enabled to be turned on/off.

Can we please add this request back to the active idea queue?

And we should add in the Constant Combinator as well since it has an on / off interface. So ctrl+left click on power switch or constant combinator turns it on or off.

Either that or add in a manual 'button' players can configure and press. This is definitely a quality of life / ease of use / preferred usage model thing.

Ctrl+Mouse1 on Power Switch flips/unflips switch

Post by GreenBeing »

IMO, manually using power switches should not be a two-click operation. Seems like a no-brainer.

Thanks for reading.

i think you can use a mod that rebinds the rotate key action to enable/disable.

If this gets implemented, the key combination should work for all on/off switches. I.e. not only power switches, but also constant combinators and trains. Since both ctrl-mouse and R are already used with some entities, so how about alt-mouse or ctrl-r?

the Honk mod uses J for trains.

i don't think this should be implemented in vanilla. too many kbd shortcuts already. it's perfectly fine to mod it in for the few who will use it.

My core mod uses middle mouse button (rebindable) for all of that (and a bunch of other stuff).

There are mods for that.

Buttons to switch circuits (and so the power switch):
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Switch_Button-1_0
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Switch_Button_Retexture

Do that also from far away:
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/remote-switch

And as xtra I found this, which is a power-switch with built-in threshold...hu

Switch power switches with ctrl+left click

Post by step2 »

I use a lot of power switches and its tedious to always go into their menu to switch their state. It would be nice to have a key combination that would quickly turn in on/off.

merged with similar enough topic

Edit: If not already mentioned, it would make much sense to have this switch for other devices. The constant combinator as best example.
But in general it could be any device, that might be switched on/off like so.
