[0.13.12] Name displayed on map in single-player game

I have entered my user name and password in the game to sign up for updates. This automatically filled the user name in "Options->Other->Factorio username"; when I started a new game, my user name (really, e-mail address) became displayed next to my position on the game map (which is completely useless in a single-player game, and covers terrain next to the player).

I tried resetting "Options->Other->Factorio username" to an empty string and using the console command as recommended here, but it did nothing.

Set the name in option to whatever you want to use for new characters


In your current game you can use

/c game.player.name="myusername"

Changing your name in-game will just cause more problems, so you are aware. The functionality to do so will be removed in the future.

The merging of account and player name was a deliberate development decision, so this report will only address the display issue of the name on the (mini-)map in SP.

Even if it's deliberate, it's a mistake and therefore bug worthy. I NEVER! want my e-mail address (or for some their real name) displayed without my explicit permission and I'm sure everyone else has the same opinion on the matter.

Having a display name for in game and an account settings area (so I can save my user name and password for mods access) as two separate configurable things would be better for the user base.

We are working on a way of allowing players to change their account usernames, but as for showing the name, we won't fix that
