Early game chests are for suckers
Early game chests are for suckers
I had previously included a bunch of wooden chests in my early game strategy, one chest per miner, because that's what the tutorial teaches you to do. I've just discovered two different ways to avoid using chests, and now I feel dumb. Hopefully this will help someone else!

Re: Early game chests are for suckers
I've used the direct feed to a furnace before, but the chained burner drills are new to me. Do they allow coal to be extracted with an inserter? Or even just empty it with ctrl+click?
Ignore this
Re: Early game chests are for suckers
Only ctrl+click will work, abusing the fact that ctrl+click will take fuel if the output slot is empty.
Re: Early game chests are for suckers
You can still output to chests or belts with that concept. https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... =425#p2398
Re: Early game chests are for suckers
I don't think the chained setup will output all of its resources, only the last one will output, the others will just feed each other fuel.
Re: Early game chests are for suckers
That requires the inserter to be manually refueled.syneris wrote:You can still output to chests or belts with that concept. https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... =425#p2398
Edit:
Still no chests, but you can get inserters to automatically refuel.

Yes, only the last output will provide resources. I haven't checked for balance changes in the year since I posted that, but the front miner should run out of resources long before the two on the chain. I start out the same with miners on coal, doing 2x1 or 2x2 until they all fill up. I then switch to a chest in order to store more than 64 coal per miner.sparr wrote:I don't think the chained setup will output all of its resources, only the last one will output, the others will just feed each other fuel.
