How to organize Factorio saves

Post by Overene »

I'm not sure how well known this is, but I just 'discovered' an interesting way to organize Factorio saves. To do it, simply create another folder in Factorio's saves folder and put some saves into it. You will be able to go into that folder ingame and still have access to your saves, just in a more organized way.

Example:
This is what it would look like in the saves folder. In the "Old" folder I put some of my older saves that I didn't want to delete but no longer really used either.

This is what the folder looks like ingame.

This is what the folder looks like when you click on it. To exit the folder, you'd just click on "[ Old/.. ]" again or whatever your folder name was.

What the hell? So the game handles folders just fine and they just didn't add a create folder button???

I knew about this feature and even use it myself (to get rid of older saves in the menu without deleting them). It was added sometime in 0.12 (or late 0.11) and I remember that the changelog did mention that change, but I can't find it right now and nobody ever mentioned it again.

Ha! I thought/wondered about this, but never considered just doing it. Well done!

Wow, I was a few versions off:
Version 0.9.0 (February 2014)
  • Features:
    • Saves directory can contain custom sub directories. Added delete save button.
