Inserter with stack bonus stuck holding an extra item.

I have a train cargo configuration for remote station refueling.

When the train reloads at the main base, the inserter takes a stack of 2 items from the chest every time (In this case, 2 walls). However the train could only accept one wall. The inserter is now stuck waiting for the target to have an open slot:

That is normal behaviour, build one chest/inserter per item.

Why, though? Could you not edit inserters to not grab more items than actually fit into the container?

The inserter should have a "Ignore Stack Bonus" Button and all will fine.
Best for all inserters except the "Stack inserters".

Yes this is an annoying problem. Especially now that the wagons are larger, but still you can only have ~12 items/loaders per wagon. Ignoring Stack bonus would help.

Shit. I thought that with 0.13 and stack inserters this problem was gone. But for some reason they made the research bonus apply to all inserters not just the stack ones.

Please either add the disable stack button or just get rid of the stack bonus for normal inserters that don't actually need it. It's a pain to amke supply trains now: they are super long and travel half empty.

I asked again after the .13 release and this is still not considered a bug, that does not mean that it wont change in some way though.

There are some hacks to solve this problem, for example i use a method posted here that includes 3 inserters ,express belts and combinators shuffling the item long enough, until the excess stack is removed.
