[0.13.3] Train routing error

Post by PiggyWhiskey »

After working with the Auto-track layer I seem to have encountered a bug.
The game doesn't detect the closest path to laying track (Curve->Straight->Straight->Curve)

3 Image below showing the bug.
1. The shortest possible length to automatically place ghosts for laying track.
Auto-routing Complete
2. The distance it should track to
Auto-routing Incomplete
3. Manually placing the curve, then a couple of straights, then the last curve.
Manual Routing Complete

The only reason why the green track merged in the horizontal rail at all in the first pic is the tree that prevents a further horizontal route that would end like pic 2. NaB.

What tree? There's no tree in the path past the straight rail... (he's drawing from right to left ... And the tree at the top horizontal line would only force a bend to bypass, not alter the bend at the bottom horizontal)

He is not, you can clearly see the display of the used rail parts and the blue mark at the cursor in the bottom left.

Which is why I said he drew from right to left, started at the top right, ended bottom left where the cursor is ...

I may have missed a tree. But as you can see by pic 3, the train should merge there fine.

And you are correct, right side of screen to left.

At some point I need to learn to distinguish those two

The auto placement of rails never makes two curves with opposite curvature, except for evading an obstacle. You can build the setup in picture 3 with auto placement as well, you just need to do it in two steps.

Ahhh. I didn't realise that. Is there any significance why?
It prevents parallel tracks from merging unless it's manual.
I would have thought it would use any possibility to get the path it needs, preferring diagonal straight over curves.

You can use the (R)otate key to force the end piece to be the orientation you want, when you're in ghost placement mode.
