So I was playing around in .13 and thought the new trains GUI was epic and played around with that a little. I planned to make sure that I would end up making a refueling port at my main base (which is where iron and copper are also imported), but then I thought, "what if you could tell the train to go to a specific point when it was low on fuel?"
This suggestion is pretty much that, and to do that, like the new wait condition for it to leave, you can add a "go to" condition and it will only go there once the condition is true.
The tabs for different conditions:
Fuel levels (go to A if fuel is above/below x)
This would be for Coal, Solid Fuel, Wood (least used fuel xD), or anything I'm missing here. It will go to the station if either locomotive is below the threshold, that way there isn't one locomotive hogging fuel!
Cargo: Go to B if the quantity of this item is above/below x
This would be sorted like the crafting interface, the filter interface (inserter or quickbar), etc. If a fuel item is selected, it checks the CARGO wagon, not the locomotive.
Constant Frequency: Set a constant and the train will go to the station after x stations have been passed. So if x if 5, then it will go to station 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 then the station in question, then it goes to 6, 7, and if it ends at 7 (example), then it'll go back to the one specified after station 3. That may be a little confusing but just hang with me.
Logistic/Circuit System Exit: It checks the logistic or circuit system storage of the stop that the train is currently at, and if it is above or below a certain threshold, it stops its current train stop route and goes to the specified station.* Stops without a logistic network or circuit network connected are ignored.
Logistic/Circuit System Entrance: Same as above, but it checks the specified stop. You can have it chain to two or more stops in a specified order if you would like to make sure the contents of the train are empty, then fill with something, then go to the specified stop.
*If you want it to come back to the stop it was at when it paused its route to refill the circuit or logistic network, then have it specify that the train should come back (and have a wait-until thing like already implemented so it knows when to leave).
I think that's all of the tabs that I can think of. Of course some of it's gotta be omitted from view, so put a scroll bar there as well.
Anyway, I really hope this gets implemented as this can cause like a ton of logistics crap going down on some people. Of course if you don't use it it won't affect normal trainplay.
Tl;dr: there's no way to sum this up without making it still too long to read.
Easier to use trains: Telling them WHEN to go to a stop.
