You loaded a 0.12 save or older in 0.13 - that's the only way you get this bug.

Also it's fixed for 0.13.1.

How can I fix this for a lan game?
I'm playing on steam, have no idea how to get to version 0.13.1 as 0.13.0 is marked as the newest beta

May be linked specifically to the campaign missions. Verified both in loading a new game of A New Hope Mission 2, and completely restarting the game and loading said mission. Both show the Steel Box requiring a Steel Box and 3 Electronic circuits to construct, when viewed in the Inventory menu. "Building" one results in no change in current number of Steel Boxes in inventory, that I have seen, but it does consume the 3 Electronic Circuits. Loaded a new random generation map, and the tooltip within the research window says the Steel Box requires 8 Steel Bars, but have not played through to actually test it after unlocking the research. Apologies if this is the wrong place to post, but it's the only thread I found in search and didn't see it as I scanned the other subforums.

Game version 0.13.1, build 22864, Win 64, Steam

Agree with BWAMalisan above... A fresh start of New Hope Mission 2 Running on 0.13.2 has the steel chest needing a steel chest bug..

running /c game.player.force.reset_recipes() in the console as suggested above fixes it
