Exiting Trains is backwards...
Since the game is an isometric view game, with the player's camera looking north, it makes sense for the player's avatar to exit trains on the south side rather than always on the north side of the train, where the avatar is hidden from view. I can't begin to count the number of times I've exited a train and attempted to walk south, only to bump into the train...

Yes and no. What annoys me more is that you exit on the left... sometimes. What they should do is exit a *bit* further away, *and* on the right. Because on the left means you're awefully close to the opposite track in a right-handed double-track layout (well, one that doesn't go as close as you can... because *then* you'd actually *stand* on the other track).
Re: Exiting Trains is backwards...
My idea: Use the same logic as for steering the train/car/tank: When you press "D" while exit: Exists on right side. When pressed "A" on the left.
Now this can also be done, while remembering the last direction: If you turned right with your train you will exit right.
I think after some tries this will become just a good habit and a player will automatically press a direction before he exists.

Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

What if the player just exited towards the direction of the mouse cursor?
Re: Exiting Trains is backwards...
Which is what when driving diagonal?
And you need to hold the button while exiting, which is difficult.

Why hold the button, just move cursor some small arrow pointing away from locomotive or vehicle may be drawn towards mouse cursor location when vehicle is standing still giving your exit direction.

Re: Exiting Trains is backwards...
Not everyone uses a drive on right side approach, I arrange my railways to be drive on left, which puts the signals between the lines.
Still, it is always exit off to the north, which is funky.

Re: Exiting Trains is backwards...
That's the best idea here. As to "diagonal"... irrelevant. We're talking "side of train", and even on a diagonal piece of track, the train has two sides.bobucles wrote:What if the player just exited towards the direction of the mouse cursor?
Re: Exiting Trains is backwards...
Hm. Might work. Not sure, cause I use my right hand (mouse), when I want to hit enter-key to leave. And I think I won't like the small arrow...

Having to hit enter to enter and exit vehicles is the problem here. Every function should be easily available with the left-hand keyboard keys or the mouse.ssilk wrote:Hm. Might work. (No I don't have a better suggestion, as "E" which is traditionally the key for vehicles is already the "inventory" key)

Re: Exiting Trains is backwards...
What about 'F'? Is it usable inside a vehicle?
Re: Exiting Trains is backwards...
Of course.
